The SA Academic Health Science and Translation Centre in partnership with the South Australian Aboriginal Health Partnership is pleased to announce the creation of the SA Aboriginal Chronic Disease Consortium.
The South Australian Aboriginal Chronic Disease Consortium is the result of a collaborative partnership formed between the South Australian Aboriginal Health Partnership and the South Australian Academic Health Science and Translation Centre.
With seed funding from SA Health, the South Australian Aboriginal Chronic Disease Consortium will aim to drive, coordinate and sustain a sector approach to the implementation of the SA Aboriginal Heart and Stroke Plan, South Australian Aboriginal Diabetes Strategy and the South Australian Aboriginal Cancer Control Plan.
The implementation will address priorities specific to each plan, as well as priorities which span across the three plans.
The driving forces of the SA Aboriginal Chronic Disease Consortium will be an Executive Group, an Aboriginal Community Reference Group and three condition-specific working groups representing Diabetes, Cancer and Heart and Stroke. These are currently being established.
The Executive Group will be co-chaired by Kerri Reilly, Executive Director, Aboriginal Health Directorate, Country Health SA Local Health Network and by Professor Alex Brown, Deputy Director of SAHMRI, lead of the Wardliparingga Research Unit. The Executive Group will comprise of executive leads responsible for service delivery across the South Australian health sector working collaboratively to implement the three evidence- based plans.
This innovative and collaborative approach to sector-wide coordinated reform is a result of the commitment by the South Australian Aboriginal Health Partnership (SA Health, the Aboriginal Health Council of SA, and the Department of Health), the South Australian Academic Health Science and Translation Centre, and key Aboriginal health providers in South Australia.
